Our Story
That belief is at the foundation of everything Mindful Balance does. This practice wasn't built to offer surface-level results or to treat symptoms in isolation. It was built to go deeper, to work with the whole person, and to help clients build strength physically, mentally, and emotionally at the same time. And it was built to be accessible. Virtual-first wasn't a pandemic pivot, it was the point. Because if someone in rural Ontario is struggling, they shouldn't have to drive two hours to sit in a waiting room. If a busy parent is trying to fit in their own care between work, kids' sports, and managing a household, they deserve a convenient option. And if a couple is finally ready to ask for help, the last thing that should stop them is logistics.
Suzanne spent over a decade working in child protection, sitting with families in their worst moments, navigating systems that were often more complicated than the problems they were supposed to solve. She saw, again and again, how hard it was for people to get the right support at the right time.

But the drive to show up for others started long before that. Leading, supporting, and helping people find their footing has been a constant in Suzanne's life since high school, not a career choice, but a calling. And over time, working across fitness, mental health, and social work, she noticed a pattern that troubled her: too many approaches treat people in pieces. The body here. The mind there. The emotional life somewhere else entirely.

"True, lasting wellness comes from alignment, when the mind, body, and soul are all working together."

How We Work With People
The credentialed and licensed mental health professionals on our team offer a variety of behavior therapy modalities via phone, video or in-person sessions. We are an in-network provider for many insurance plans.

Every therapist on our team has their own training, style, and specialties, but there are a few things we all believe in:

1
We treat the whole person
Your mental health doesn't exist separately from your body, your relationships, your sense of purpose. We work with all of it, because lasting change requires addressing all of it. That's the standard we hold for every client we work with.
2
The Relationship is Therapy
Techniques matter. But the most important thing in any session is that you feel safe enough to say what's actually going on. We put more energy into building that trust than anything else.
3
You Set the Pace
There's no agenda you have to follow, no timeline you have to hit. Some people need six sessions. Some people benefit from ongoing support for years. We follow your lead.
4
Evidence based isn't
one-size-fits-all
Our team is trained in approaches like CBT, DBT, EMDR, and trauma-informed care, but we tailor every session to the actual person in front of us. Your experience is specific. Your treatment should be too.
What We Stand For
Compassion without judgement
Whatever brought you here, however long it's been, however complicated it feels, you won't be made to feel like you should have come sooner or asked for less.
Honesty over comfort
Good therapy isn't always comfortable. We'll be honest with you, about what we're seeing, what might help, and what might be getting in the way, because that's what actually moves things forward.
Dignity in every session
You are more than your diagnosis, your history, or your hardest moment. We treat every client as a whole person, capable of growth, deserving of care, and worth showing up for.
"I wasn't willing to settle for surface-level results. I wanted to create something more intentional, an approach that goes deeper, that empowers people to build strength physically, mentally, and emotionally. Real transformation happens when you address the whole person. That's the difference."
— Suzanne Hamil, MSW, RSW, LMSW · Founder, Mindful Balance Psychological Wellness
The people you'll be working with
Mindful Balance is a small, intentional practice. We've built a team of experienced, registered therapists who bring different backgrounds and specialties, but share the same core belief: that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care.
